Resilience is the modern term for Backup. Knowing what to carry, and more importantly what not to is a question we are frequently asked. Most people would baulk at a tent, yet I remember that’s exactly what Sir Ranulph Fiennes took with him on his 2000 Arctic Solo Expedition, so it is obviously dependent upon where you’re going and for how long.
Scott and I tend to carry the same backup kit for all of our Scottish expeditions, which are at most a couple of days, more normally a day. The only variance is summer and winter kit.
