These acronyms on the First Aid Card Set are the gold standards used by Mountain Rescue, Fire & Rescue, the Ambulance Service, Police Authorised Firearms Officers, and the Military. They make the difference between people living or dying and we believe should be carried by everyone. So much so that we sell these two cards for the price of one.

A Personal Story (Lyle)

Some years ago, I was in Leeds, where I witnessed a heavy goods vehicle turning left at traffic lights. Unseen to the driver, on his near side was a young woman on a bicycle. He knocked her off her bike and then the rear wheels of his vehicle ran over her.

I was first on-scene. Her lower limbs had been severed off and she was screaming in agony – I can still feel the shock of being there.

Kneeling beside me on the tarmac was another passer-by, who by happenchance was a nurse in A&E. The whole situation was so intense that I believe I would have missed some of the vital steps in my first aid training response had she not been there.

Ever since then I have carried in my wallet a scruffy piece of paper with First Aid reminders.

The girl lived due to the brilliant care afforded her at St James’s Hospital and in part because at the scene the nurse and I stemmed her arterial bleeding, kept her airway clear, and gave an accurate handover assessment to the paramedics when they arrived.
