The Real World Navigation Series
From December 2019, I’m going to upload a video every month about simple techniques, that will allow you to navigate confidently in hill-walking areas, in fair to moderate weather conditions, using your smartphone, GPS and/or map and compass.

Orienting the Map
One of the most important things to learn in navigation is how to match the features marked on your map with what you can see in the landscape around you.
This will help you ascertain your location and make sure you’re heading in the right direction.
You’ll need to do it before you start walking and throughout your journey and while quite straightforward, it’s also easy to get wrong.
