The Blizzard Compact Blanket is the lightweight version of the Blizzard Survival Bag
How many times have you been at the finish of a longer distance running race or an outdoor event where participants battle with the obligatory ‘foil blanket’ in a feeble attempt to wrap it round their shoulders whilst the wind blows it all over the place? Like you I have always wondered how effective they are and what was the point of trying?
We have always been massive proponents of the Blizzard products having been at the pointy end in many real-life situations and witnessed first-hand how effective the Blizzard products are in hypothermia management. Both Scott and I have also been out playing ‘casualty’, which invariably involves lying in some remote location in crap weather for ages waiting for the ‘Team’ to find us! We have greatly benefitted from wrapping ourselves up in a Blizzard Blanket for the wait and realise how effective they are at keeping us warm.
Enter the Blizzard Compact Blanket, the Blizzard version of the obligatory emergency ‘foil blanket’ this is a highly effective, shorter blanket for emergency situations, with the two-layer system trapping the warm air from your body and the blanket being long enough to effectively wrap around yourself and secure.
This is the lightweight version of the Blizzard Survival Blanket- it’s less than half the weight of the 280g blanket and vacuum-sealed in a lightweight flat shape that fits neatly in-between kit in your rucksack. It is made from 2- Layer Reflexcell, the technology that makes Blizzard outperform all other space blankets.
If we’re on a day trip or out in mild weather we carry the Blanket. Scott also packs one when he’s fell or hill running and he always has one in his bag when he is watching his son play rugby, kids chill off quickly. In full-on Scottish winter, working with groups and on longer trips we carry the Blizzard Bag which can also be used as an emergency sleeping bag.
